Is there anything an adult can learn from The Amazing World of Gumball ?

The Amazing World of Gumball is a surreal and strange Cartoon Network show that makes the kid in you laugh. It also makes the adult in you think. You’ve seen other such shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy and Sponge Bob Square Pants. Yeah, this is one is not those.  The CGI in this sitcom will be giving you acid flashbacks and sending you on a detour through your mind. Tell me again, why are you watching this?

You know why. Because it’s a great show for kids but actually way better if you’re an adult.

Sometimes choices are difficult.

The Amazing World of Gumball episode that everyone can relate to is this. Nicole remembers the day she first met Richard. Then she remembers all the different choices she could have made. This insightful episode won’t hit home until you’ve had to make the difficult decisions. Unless you’ve declared bankruptcy, been divorced or had a child out of wedlock, The Amazing World of Gumball will seem like a show for little kids. But once you go through these life transitions, you’ll see this intellectually stimulating show in a new way.

You thought you had to live by a code.

The episode in which the internet goes down and the characters have to adapt without it. Yeah, that hilarious one. That’s about your life and you don’t even know it. Once you hit 40, you realize the system is a joke and it can sometimes can be on you. You wish you’d woken up decades earlier and used your creative energies to do what truly makes you happy. But you were too busy worrying about grades and  getting married and housing prices. What happens when you wake up? The Amazing World of Gumball is just a funny story and so is your life. Make the second half of yours crazy as shit.

You can’t always just do what comes naturally.

Anyone over the age of 25 has realized you have to think things through. A little strategy goes a long way and self-restraint is often the best option. “The Vase” is the episode where Nicole encourages Gumball to just do what comes naturally is and break stuff is hysterical. But in real life, mature people have learned the hard way. You can’t always go with your first impulse. This is hilarious stuff when it’s The Amazing World of Gumball, and not The Amazingly Stupid World of Yours Truly.

Choose your friends carefully.

By the time you’ve hit 30 you should know that not everyone is headed in the same direction as you.  Remember the episode “The Phone” where Gumball and Darwin give their phone number to Ocho and he makes their life a living hell? Choose your friends wisely because not all friends are keepers.

As you kick off your shows and tune into The Amazing World of Gumball after a hard day of work, two things will happen. You’ll get a dose of surreal mature realizations. You’ll be laughing your ass off too.
